I live in a small town in eastern Virginia where we have off-brand WiFi and questionable cell reception. Like most adults my age, I can easily drink my weight in coffee and I spend my free time binge-watching Netflix and wondering why I can't get my laundry done. I have two cats, one dog, a snake and a husband (in no particular order). I love drawing, painting, writing, and smelling new books after I buy them. I love playing music and, over the years, have learned the piano, flute and ukulele - but I’m real shy and probably won’t play anything for you… even if you ask nicely.

Generally, art is an essential part of my life. It fits neatly into every part of who I am and drives the motivation for nearly everything I do. It's delicate, messy, intimate and personal above all. Photography in particular has helped me embrace a specific kind of love for humanity and its enduring potential for goodness. It has helped me fall more deeply in love with details, the every-day and the mundane. It encourages nostalgia, longing and remembrance... and the older I get, the more I understand why this is so important. Art is meaningful, and purposeful... but sometimes I just want to get funky and make some cool stuff.

You don’t make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved.
